Tiny memories from "Combat in progress".
It can not be the same viewing as the real size of the work consist of 6m x 4m with louder/better sound.
80 percent of the printed fabrics that I transferred portraits onto ( which to me represents the society of specific place and time.) comes from the 3rd district of Paris(20 percent from other parts of Paris.)
I overlapped highly contrasted black & white portraits onto printed fabrics based upon meeting with each person, and simple questionnaire and inspirations.
With these two surface superposed to one another,I attempted to express daily combat and as a whole work created a manual for daily survival.
They are a propaganda for individuals to stay individuals and by being an individual to be part of our community to create together our society.
We use hand gestures in the context when the words are not enough and for me they are symbolic tools that help us to go forward.
I made this work to represent Paris's 3rd district, where the photographs were shot, works were created and the projection was made.
This neighborhood, consists of mixed population with diverse social classes which includes a large communities of Chinese and Jewish, along with Arabs, African, French, other Europeans and Asians.
Music is extract from Nood Fatiwa, over lapped with words that represents daily actions.
Thank you to Nood and Pepe.
P.S. If you missed to see it on 4th of Oct, you can see it on the 6 November at Maison des arts , creteil.....
